THE DRESS FOR GOD’S CHOSEN ONES
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Colossians 3: 12, NIV
Particular dress codes are often associated with particular professions. You can never mistake a soldier for a doctor when each of them is in their professional garment. Paul takes his time to explain to the Colossian Christians the kind of dress they are expected to put on as ‘professionals’ in the service of the Lord Jesus Christ. This dress comprises such fabrics as love, peace, compassion, forbearance, forgiveness, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
In our world today, we cannot do less than the believers of Paul’s time were expected to do. The more compassionate, patient, and gentle we are, the better for our world and the easier Christ can be preached. Each of these virtues ensures smooth interpersonal relationships. Marriages will work better; we will have better families, better churches and a better society. Do you have your professional regalia today (attitude befitting of believers)? Please check before you leave your house for school, office or market this morning.
